A Letter of Welcome from Our Pastor

Welcome to Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church
134 Bridge Street, Almonte. Tel: 613 256-1034

I want you to know that I get how hard this stage of your faith life is. How deciding to come back to church inside of the building on a Sunday at a specific time and in person, or not, feels a lot more complicated than you ever anticipated it would be almost two years ago. I know how some of our pandemic life felt like a reset. During that time, you discovered that not going felt better than going on most Sundays. You discovered a love of easy Sundays without getting ready or leaving your house. I get that you don’t want to come back yet and that it feels like the church is moving on without you, that you are being left behind and left out. I want you to know you’re not the only one feeling this way. I want you to know that the church was always more than a building, the church was the people, the relationships, the wondering together about God and faith and life.

Some people want to stay home because they object to gathering and risk of COVID exposure. Still others want to stay home because they have simply grown comfortable with sleeping in on Sundays and perhaps watching service online.

At the risk of overstepping my bounds, let me urge you to not merely resume your services in person, but go out of your way to urge and plead with your people to come back. Please don’t let them believe that it’s possible to “do church” at home by themselves.   I urge parents to bring their rambunctious children to church again to grow in their Faith-experience as children.

Sunday is a special day of the week, and it’s a great time to pause and find solace in prayer.

We wish to invite you to join us for Sunday prayers — come for hope, spiritual growth, worship, fellowship and encouragement. Whether you live next door or halfway across the world, we would love to have your presence beginning this Christmas celebration activities as we worship together under the power of God.

For those of you that we have not seen since after Covid, we wanted to check in to see how you’re doing. We miss having you at church with us and wanted to let you know we’d love to have you come back soon. Our doors are always open for you and we’d love to welcome you back. We hope that this message finds you in good health and peace.

For those of you, who come from time to time, we are so glad that you have chosen to worship with us. We strive to create a warm and supportive atmosphere for all those who come. We would like nothing more than for you to experience the love of Christ through our friendly congregation. We hope that your first visit with us will be encouraging and enjoyable. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or needs; we are always available to offer support. We look forward to seeing you again and again!

Our weekend services are as follows: Saturday at 4.30pm, Sunday at 10am

Abundant Blessings from God for you and your family.

Sincerely in Christ,
Fr.  Cyprian
