The Holy Eucharist is the very “source and summit” of our beautiful Catholic Faith (Catechism of the Catholic Church #1324).
At the Last Supper, Jesus took and offered bread and wine, which were typical parts of a Jewish Passover meal. But he did something new and profound -- He said, “This is My Body”, “This is My Blood”. Every time Holy Mass is celebrated, the Eucharistic Sacrifice - the new Passover - is renewed or made present. Thus, Holy Mass has the same merits as Jesus’ self-sacrifice on the cross. Wow!
